Richard this is interesting because I've been thinking how I do some of the things I do at Instagram somewhere else. I have thought of an image diary at Patreon and maybe to make a monthly zine of selected observations as a post and as a digital download for a certain tier and a physical zine for another. Thanks for sharing these images. Great to follow your work. Is presentation why you decided to do this here and not Patreon?

Hey Stella, I hope all's good. Thanks for your kind comments. I've all but given up on Instagram, just the odd post to keep things reasonably up to date. I used to send out a monthly newsletter to my mailing list which was essentially a month's worth of Insta posts along with exhibition news as and when. I stopped sending that for a while but looking back it was a useful way of documenting my practice even though some of it may have seemed relatively banal at the time. And so I decided to start again on here, even if the process is just for me. Can't remember why I chose Substack over Patreon but I do like the simplicity of posting. And the fact that there are a lot of visual artists and photographers on here makes for some interesting reading. The cross-platform marketing graphics are useful too, I always download these and use them to build up a library of links on my own website (https://www.richardnicholls.co.uk/blog) as well as putting on other socials should I feel the need…

I really like lots about Patreon. They have added some features that are great like collections. I feel like I can’t split the energy. But I could put some short posts here. I feel that generally people are interacting more which really makes me feel like folks ar actually looking. But I too write there to work out ideas and document. It creates a discipline for my practice to look at what I’m doing now and in the past. Maybe this is my Instagram.
