More creative coding to start off this month’s journal. ‘Climate Noise’ is a series of images that I created for the Worcester Arts Collective Open House exhibition that’s been on this week. The images are best viewed individually on my website where I also explain the process of how they are made. Here are the works installed and some images of the rest of the exhibition.
Our Open House exhibition coincides with the Three Choirs Festival which is being held a few hundred yards from our building. I thought it might be an idea to do some pieces that might resonate with a choral audience. Here are some prints ready for mounting – a pop art representation of Worcester cathedral and a triptych of the three cathedrals involved in the festival. The latter were public domain images taken in the 19th century that I rephotographed using a tin-type process emulation using an app on my phone. Sort of bringing it all round full circle.
They say you shouldn’t chase markets with your artwork, instead do your own thing for authenticity. So based on the popularity of these prints, or lack thereof, case in point…
ArtCan (the international arts organisation that I’m a member of) have an annual fundraising auction of postcard sized original artwork. I’m very pleased to say that my piece ‘Bevere Green looking east, looking west’ went to a winning bidder on the night. It’s a Polaroid diptych, albeit slightly irregular and cropped to fit the dimensions allowed.
And on the subject of postcard sized work, I’ve been getting together a group of artists for a project titled ‘Revolve’. The idea is that we each make a small piece of work, one a week for 52 weeks – one revolution of the earth around the sun. Then in late summer/early autumn 2025 we will hold an exhibition with everyone’s work together. There are 17 of us signed up to start in August so if everyone lasts the course there will be nearly 900 pieces of work. The work can be any medium, on a theme or topic, or completely random. The idea is simply to encourage making on a regular basis and to just see where it goes.
I’ve got a couple of ideas in mind as a starting point and I’ve been experimenting a bit this last week. I won’t divulge all just yet but here are a few test shots that I took.
And that’s about it for July. It feels like there’s been a lot going on but most of it working towards our exhibition. Thanks for your interest in my work.
