Studio Diary
A visual record of goings on during July 2025
The year-long Revolve project is complete! Here are the final 52 images that I’ve made, shown in the order taken. Each subject in the tin (the ‘shallow tin’ as it came to be known – on account of some of the deep and meaningful subjects some of the other artists on the project were tackling…) corresponds to a letter of the alphabet (twice over).
I took the pictures in no particular order, sometimes something just grabbed my attention and so I just took the image – I’ve had a camera in postition on a tripod for pretty much all of the 12 months. Some shots were planned and I got what I envisaged in a single take, other subjects were more of an exploration before I got the shot I wanted. And then, as is oft the case, I subsequently preferred one of the earlier shots when I put together the final cut.
As the project end was approaching I needed to review where I had gaps in the alphabet in order to plan the final few images. My family were great at this point, coming up with lists of suggestions and potential subject matter for the missing letters. The review meant that some shots didn’t make the selection as I had more than two candidates for a particular letter, others got renamed to fit a gap, and some got bumped as they just didn’t really work.
I’m pleased with the final selection. The next stage is to decide how to display them. All 15 artists will be showing their 52 pieces at the REVOLVE exhibition in September.
Worcestershire Open Studios takes place from 16 to 25 August. Eight of us are taking part at the Collective and as part of the event publicity we had a photojournalist come to take some studio ‘action’ shots. Here’s me in action (with mock-up tin setup for the occasion!) and a few of Emma working on some of the other artists.

In other news the Collective is moving! We’ve found a new home a few hunded yards from where we are at present but on the other side of the Cathedral. It’s right next to the main entrance so will be much better for footfall and general public awareness. It’s about twice the size of our existing building so lots of scope for new projects going forward. All very exciting!
And finally, a few pics taken out and about when walking the dog.
