Why do some images just work better as a pair?

…to show a wider view

…to mark the passage of time

…or the seasons

…to allow a visual dialogue, allowing for comparisons or contrasts

…contrasting new vs old

…common elements allow the eye to travel between pieces, strengthening the composition

…complementary colours and common shapes

…to expand the context of the picture, making it easier for the viewer to understand

or because sometimes a pair just works better together than each on their own.
