XPan format panoramic pictures straight out of your phone…
When I was shooting film I always wanted a Hasselblad XPan for the characteristic cinematic look that the panoramic format gives. I tried cropping 6x6 but it’s not the same experience creating something in post-processing as shooting with the viewfinder in the right format to begin with.
And then, just recently, some decades later I came across the 65x24 app which gives you a gloriously large viewfinder on your phone and produces images in the 2.7:1 format that directly correlates to the 65x24mm negative size of the XPan.
So, what’s not to love? I’ve been out on my usual dog walking routes around the streets and walking back and forth to my studio seeing things anew in this elongated format, both horizontal and vertical. I find it quite remarkable how I suddenly start seeing potential pictures once my brain is tuned into looking at the world in a certain way.
Thanks for looking!
